Before Marv Albert, Bob Costas and Mike Breen, there was Marty Glickman. This documentary chronicles the life and career of Glickman, a Jewish-American athlete-turned-broadcaster who pioneered many of the techniques, phrases and programming innovations that are commonplace in sports reporting today. A multi-sport athlete with blistering speed, he was a teammate of Jesse Owens on the 1936 U.S. Olympic track team, but politics and anti-Semitism robbed him of the chance to win gold in the 400-meter relay - an event held in front of Adolf Hitler in Berlin. Returning home, Glickman was a football star at Syracuse, then found his niche in sports broadcasting - narrating newsreels, calling pro, college and high-school games (most notably in the NFL and NBA), and shaping sports programming on numerous networks (including HBO) for over 50 years.
